The US cannot be "responsible" for policing the ongoing Wars of Reformation for 1.5 billion Muslims

The American Interest illustrates the fundamental insanity of an excessively interventionist US policy in the middle east. They cite mass sectarian killings in Iraq and Pakistan as signs that the US is "abdicating" it's role. How in Zeus' name is America going to police the hatreds of 20 percent of the world's population? Boots on the ground at every minority community in Islam?

Let the Mohammedans sort themselves out while keeping nukes out of their hands, the oil flowing and maintaining a regional quarantine if neccesary. But don't be stupid and get embroiled in what looks to be a century long series of brutal wars of religion.
