Kevin Williamson notes that like Marxism the new isms of the left: environmentalism, feminism, multiculturalism and so on are failing to deliver what they promised and like with Marxism instead of conceding defeat their the promoters are doubling the rhetoric and coercion.
He observes rightly imho that the major dividing line between the right and left isn't foreign policy or taxes but the role of government coercion with the left seeking an expansive and ever more punitive role for government counterbalanced by the Right' traditional skepticism and fealty to only traditional "negative" rights.
If you want to understand how the thoughtful right thinks about today's left this is a good primer.
