The "Bar" got elected without demonstrating foundation level skills necessary to be President. You know, skills like consensus building, negotiating, working with the other side, choosing wise subordinates and managing them effectively.
He's a classic victim of affirmative action. By all accounts very talented and ambitious, Mr. Obama rose to the top without ever being forced to stand and deliver. A legislator for over a dozen years who never legislated. A constitutional "scholar" who neither published nor litigated on a constitutional controversy Mr. Obama is the Chauncey Gardener of our political system: being there at the right time with the right credentials and the right race.
His Presidency is the ultimate product of our degraded, overcredentialed meritocracy: pronounced "perfect" for the job by the talking heads of media and academe who have likewise managed nothing in their lives more challenging than an unruly graduate seminar or balky editor.
One of the problems with the virtual world is that it gives the prolix (and yes you are prolix if you use prolix even once in your life) and articulate word wranglers of media and academe and law far more power and influence than they have earned or deserve and drowns out the voices of people who really do know how to do hard things.
So now the President, by his own feckless lack of leadership and failure to build strong personal relationships with the other power players is hinting that he's going to "do it all by my widdle self" which is madness. Because if he does he will provoke an historic crisis that even his shallow, prolix pals can't talk him out of.
