Perhaps the most comforting knowledge that a libertarian like me has is that the state will always fail or overreact. No matter what task they set for themselves it will inevitably be a balls up of incompetence, venality and cruelty. As sure as the sun rises. Which is why I label statism as a religion. Because with failure all around you must have a lot of faith in that old time religion.
