Prohibition begets more prohibition, state cruelty begets more cruelty

There are large numbers of 'synthetic' drugs with more popping up each day.  These drugs only exist because prohibition has made the older and much better understood drugs illegal.  So these drugs in turn are being banned and they will spawn more drugs that will be banned ad infinitum.  If you're a drug warrior it's great:  job security - so long as society seeks to ban some substances it will be required to spend more and more money and spiral further and further down into exemplary violence and cruelty.  The logic of oppression is that each cycle requires a larger dose of state violence to achieve the same impact.

It's a lot like drug addiction.  Once our leaders and their drug warriors are addicted to their power and impunity they want more and more and more and more.  That's how we got by far the greatest proportion of our citizens imprisoned and felonized of any nation in the world.

What's all the fuss about? The DEA explains that "smokable herbal blends marketed as being 'legal' and providing a marijuana-like high have become increasingly popular, particularly among teens and young adults, because they are easily available and they are more potent and dangerous than marijuana." According to the DEA, then, marijuana prohibition has driven people to "easily available" but more dangerous alternatives. The solution? More prohibition! In 2011 the DEA administratively added five chemicals used in pretend pot to Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act. The Synthetic Drug Abuse Prevention Act of 2012 listed those substances and added 10 more synthetic cannabinoids. A DEA rule that took effect in February names four more.
DEA, DOJ, FBI- for large swathes of the population, including me, these terms stopped standing for justice a long time ago.  They're oppressive agencies that operate like the KGB.  The only reason they don't get away with as much as the Sovs secret police did is that we still have some semblance of civil society and decency.  So they daren't unleash their mailed fist too soon.

Our nation has gone insane with this addiction to coercion.  And the only way to quit is to stop, admit we hae a problem and turn around and walk the other way.  More at the link.
