A friend of mine and I are arguing about how to characterize the Obama years - and about what each if us predicted 5 years ago - he remembers me saying 'collapse' while I remember saying capital strike. We both remember him predicting muddling through.
But it seems to me that it's a multi part question one part of which is what has happened to how we think about ourselves and the future? This Bloomberg survey is depressing evidence that despite neither of us predicting it, some things have collapsed. More on this to follow.
I don't think this is a very good summary if the survey because it assumes the cause of the result and then interviews lefties to confirm their bias. While income inequality might be part of it its hard to believe that is important to the exclusion of other drivers like huge family income declines and very high real unemployment.
But if you expect the mainstream PRess to not be leftist......
