Simple: Paul Krugman is a Major General in the left's War on Reality. As such he can hold two mutually contradictory positions in juxtaposition without either impinging on the other until implemented. At which time he can pivot to ignoring the real chaos he's caused and blame it on "the right wing" for failing to make reality comport with his ideological fantasy.
Piece O Cake - left wise academics do this all the time. Unless it applies directly to them of course. Then they become brutally rational.
