Modern American debtors prisons or so why did we have a revolution anyway?

There evidently are tens of thousands of Americans in prison because they can't pay their debts.  And governments routinely seize (steal) the assets of people who have been convicted of no crime. Indeed some of them are targeted for prosecution based upon the extent of their unencumbered assets and their lack of social or political pull. And of course, there are hundreds of 'crimes' that do not require mens rae or criminal intent. .

So, can someone explain to me precisely why we had  a revolution? It seems that the only state abuse we don't have from the old country is droit du seigneur. Well actually that's not true: Bill Clinton, JFK and LBJ practiced it with "vigah" (or is that vigger?) and W probably did before he found Jesus (his was definitely vigger). And BHO prefers droit du golf.

I warn my children about the police and the "officers" of the court ten times more often than about criminals. And I worry 100 times more. Because a criminal just about has to kill you to destroy your life.  All the authorities have to do is convict you of one of thousands of increasingly random 'felonies' and your life prospects collapse. And in our plea bargain hell, 98% of the time they'll get  you to plead guilty to avoid truly cruel and unusual imprisonment which is now the norm. And they alone among the nation's armed and dangerous can kill you and get away with it.

God help us every one.
