Progressive sell 'safety'. They tell you that if you give up this bit of this freedom and a dollop of that money then your (Income, Health, Education, Housing, you name it) "Security" will be assured. They will care for you. So long as you give up that freedom and money. College, being the most 'progressive' of all the progressives goes even further. There is a significant move on many campuses to call out and in some cases banish ideas and works that are too 'disturbing'. And on top of that the academy has invented a new level of grievance termed 'micro' aggression. Where the party of the first part (usually white male, natch) fails to take into account the (uncommunicated) sensitivities of the poor dear of the second part and says something that hurts their feelings. This used to be called give and take, now it's been pathologized.
Here are some of mommy's little snowflakes sharing their dark lonely wanderings through a cruel, micro-aggressing world. Bring lots of kleenex because you'll laugh so hard that it will make you cry. Incidentally, these kids didn't come to college trailing this flapdoodle, they paid good tuition dollars to become bitter, frightened old women at the ripe old age of 20.
I guess American colleges are really giving up on the liberal fantasy that they existed to ensure the free exchange of ideas. That they were a place where any thought or idea could be uttered and then exposed to intellectual audit. No more. Now Nannie is in the house and Nannie will smack if you upset the children. Another reason why college is increasingly a waste of time for most who attend.
