If you're going to let the drug warriors search people's rectums without warrants, I don't see how you can ban phone or pc searches

Now, why a supposed civilized nation empowers the policing authorities to rape citizens and paw through all of their most intimate information is quite inexplicable.  Until you remember that the people who work for the state derive their status and compensation from repressing the rest of us.  The temptation to play (a rather perverted) God is always with us and particularly with our gun and badge toting 'saviors'.

A federal judge today upheld a President Barack Obama administration policy allowing authorities along the U.S. border to seize and search laptops, smartphones and other electronic devices for any reason.
The decision (.pdf) by U.S. District Judge Edward Korman in New York comes as laptops, and now smartphones, have become virtual extensions of ourselves, housing everything from email to instant-message chats to our papers and effects.
God help us every one.

Oh, and another thing:  can we dispense with the fantasy that Barack Obama is in any way, shape or form a 'liberal'?  A statist authoritarian leftist? yes, but a believer in liberty?  Ha ha, jokes on you, rubes.
