Alas, we don’t have the money, manpower or time required to fully transform the most troubled states of this region. It will only happen when they want it to. We do, though, have the technology, necessity and innovators to protect ourselves from them — and to increase the pressure on them to want to change — by developing alternatives to oil. It is time we started that surge. I am tired of being the sucker in this game.
How long oh Lord, how long? How long until the New York Times requires its columnists to take basic economics courses or at least submit its columns to a BS in Economics from a decent state school (I include Paul Krugman in needing this)? “Develop alternatives to fossil fuels so we can increase pressure on them them?"
First: Pakistan has no oil. Afghanistan has no oil.
Second: Doubling the price of our energy will not change the basic demand for Oil – all of the increase in demand for oil is coming from China, India, Brazil, etc. etc. We will double, triple or quadruple our price of energy and wipe out our world beating Oil Technology industry all for what? Slowing revenues to Saudi Arabia a little? While our industries collapse because he rest of the world’s energy prices are half or one quarter ours?
Let’s make this a lot simpler. Everybody in America – you know who you are: go out, find a sharp stick, got it? Ok, grasp its base in your right hand (or left hand if you’re left handed, left, right, it doesn’t matter, just do it). With your other hand grasp the stick 3 inches from the tip. Ok, got that? Now open your eyes wide and with a sharp jabbing motion, plunge the stick into your eye.
Bandage and repeat with the other eye.
See? So much cheaper, simpler and faster.
Calling our ‘ruling class’ cretins gives them too much credit. Of course the other explanation is that Senor Friedman bought millions dud alt energy investments from the Goracle and is just desperately trying to get the taxpayers to save his bacon. Either way he's a corporatist fool.
