Supreme Court justice Stephen Breyer is a "government power liberal" - he argues that the courts should defer to the other branches of government in the interest of the need to 'get things done'. Sort of like the old Mussolini trope that "he made the trains run on time" or perhaps the Marxist 'you've got to break eggs to make and omelette' routine gussied up with legalese.
It's been a long, long time since there's been a real 'liberal' on the High Court that stood resolutely for liberty.
