NRO is talking about whether the US can continue evacuating Americans from war zones here. In my experience, they never did.
I lived in Jakarta in the '70s (actually when BHO was there) during epic riots which kept us off the street for more than a week at time. I knew friends who had lived there in 1965 during the "year of living dangerously" when 500,000 mostly Chinese Christians were slaughtered. The US Government evacuated government employees to Clark AFB in the Philippines and left the non-Federal 'proles' to fend for themselves. They all congregated at the US Government owned American Club compound and protected it from roaming mobs. The pathetic part about it was at the time, the only Americans eligible to be members of the "American Club" were US Government employees. In the '70s they relaxed eligibility, letting us 'proles' join at vastly inflated monthly dues.
My experience (as evidenced by the current Federal compensation program) is that the Feds take care of their own. The rest of us? Not so much.
