Not only is the smartphone eliminating large swathes of what we used to do on the "PC", it is changing the way we do those things. Smartphone usage is more episodic and mobile, meaning that our integration with the cyberworld is more complete - we do it wherever we are rather than simply when we are at a resting point with our laptop. This change in use cases has inevitably driven changes in workflow and actual behavior. Smartphones are integrating into shopping, navigation, conversation and entertainment in a way that PCs could never enable.
So bad news for the PC makers is also bad news for anyone that can't adapt their services to a more episodic, mobile and fragmented consumer world.
