What the left believes

Pete Stark, a liberal bull believes that there is no Constitutional limit to what Congress can do.  In other words, the Constitution has no meaning and we do not have limited government.  This is the essence of the Constitutional debate on Obamacare - can the government compel people to purchase a service or commodity against their will?  Elena Kagan said in her confirmation hearings that there was no 'Constitutional' barrier to a law mandating that everyone eat their vegetables, but that it would be 'bad policy'.

How can you share a Constitutional Republic with a party dominated by people who don't believe in Constitutional Republics?

This is why I describe the left as 'fascist':  they accept no a priori limits on their exercise of power.  What is 'Constitutional' translates as 'things we want to do'.  Stripped of it's limits, our government is simply factions contending for unlimited power.  Like the Roman Republic in its decadent phase, holding power becomes everything.  And as Julius Caesar realized before he crossed the Rubicon:  if holding power is everything, then losing power can mean destruction, humiliation, even death.
