Ross Douthat of the NYT makes the point that the more the state does, the less room there is for truly voluntary community action. One of the things that differentiates the US from Europe is our thriving independent, charitable sector. In their rush to emulate the (Bankrupt) European model, the Obami are damaging civil society. Take the HealthCare Reform bill for an example.
