As befits the party of Federalism, Republican power is strongest at the state level. I know that Missouri has become a rather lopsided GOP franchise..for the first time in recorded history (we had no reconstruction). I guess that's true of a lot of others.
HISTORIC GOP GAINS IN STATE LEGISLATURES: “Republicans haven’t enjoyed this much power in state capitals since the 1920s.”
More here. The key point: the Republicans haven't been a truly 'mass party' since the 20s, they are again. It's the Dems who are now an 'elite' epi-phenomenon.
For example, at the bottom of the ticket in MO, the Dems have essentially been exterminated outside of their academic and inner city and inner ring suburban base. 2 to 1. Everywhere.
