Poetry in Time of War

Herman Melville wrote this after Lincoln's Assassination. It is particularly apt after terror attacks. But will we need to wait 3 years for the iron hand?

There is sobbing of the strong,
And a pall upon the land;
But the People in their weeping
Bare the iron hand;
Beware the People weeping
When they bare the iron hand.

-- Herman Melville's poem: The Martyr
