With plummeting birth rates we have stopped reproducing ourselves biologically and that pessimism about our future has spread to new business formation. With the advent of big government 'compassionate' conservatism and it's vicious big brother, big government progressivism the people's confidence in their ability to create the future has collapsed. This is a much more serious problem than the deficit. Because people and institutions that no longer believe in the future tend to die.
