Art Laffer: "The political class are like bad renters"

I was at a gathering of the Show Me Institute recently.  They were opening their gorgeous new headquarters set in a magnificent late 19th century West End Mansion.  Art Laffer gave some remarks and he said something that I found apt:  "The political class are like bad renters, not knowing if they'll be in power more than two years they spend everything at hand and then some, because to conserve it is to eventually bequeath resources on their adversaries."

The crop that have just been semi-tossed were particularly bad - they've been ripping out the copper plumbing and smashing the furniture for firewood.

It would be great if we could get the lot of them a much smaller, less damage prone dwelling.  How about a supermax cell?

The bunch that have just been semi-tossed consumed much of the structure of the building. The Congress of the Termites...

How about we take any damage they do to the building out of their salary?

Among thieves it's known as a, "Smash and Grab."

Get into the jewelry store, smash open the cases, grab as much as you can as quick as you can, make your getaway before the cops arrive.

This time they got caught, but by the time they get out of jail the jewelry store owners will have forgotten what they look like.

  4. At the least, let's not rent to them again.

  5. Landlords hedge against bad renters by demanding security deposits. In contrast, we reward our bad renters by elevating them to the judiciary, major law firms or lobbying firms after they leave the leasehold with a carpet full of cat urine, broken porcelain in the privy and bong rings on the kitchen counter.

  6. How about we sell DC to Disney, and just do government on the internet?

Well Disney already got Marvel, so why not sell them DC as well?
