The difference between US and UK eggs reflects the difference in governing philosophy

In America we have elaborate, comprehensive regulations delineating precisely how eggs must be washed. In England they ban washing of eggs because it encourages clean farming practices. Yet our eggs kill tons of us while UK eggs are completely safe. Why? You can vaccinate chickens against salmonella in the UK. You don't have to but you get a to display a salmonella free stamp so everyone does.  In the US? FDA hasn't got around  to that salmonella thingy yet.  Too busy monitoring egg bath procedures.
